J J esus is the incarnation of goodness and mercy of
the Father. His person and language provides a true encounter between human beings and
God's mercy.
He teaches us to ask,
but he reminds us in another passage: "your Father knows ... well before you ask." This means that the
first attitude of those who believe
is of the recognition of the
divine solicitude and total trust in His
goodness and mercy. First of all, there is already a
movement of God toward us, capable
of penetrating to the deepest roots of our being, inviting to
the conversion. Therefore, the recognition of this divine solicitude
should be on the basis of our experience sonship. Only then can
we take the second step, which is the petition.
As children, we must address
to the Father with insistent trust, sure that we receive a lot
from him and that it is only
possible to get good things. The trust must be unlimited as well as is unlimited the solicitude of God with us. This attitude is the basis of our
calabriana spirituality and so should
happen in our personal and
communitarian prayer.
Although Jesus in this
text mentions that we are bad, he recognizes signs of kindness in
our actions and he decides to work with the best of us. Thus,
we recognize as sinners, but we are not hopeless, because we are sinners redeemed by the mercy of God and
called to salvation. This means that
we have already been touched by God in his mercy, well
before of showing in need of this
mercy. Is faithful the one who promises. Therefore, faith in
his providence; unlimited trust in His goodness and mercy.
